About Cadillac Dust

Cadillac Dust is a new stop-motion horror short film written and will be directed by macabre artist, Abigail Braman. Dark in nature, this story focuses on two nameless characters that catch up and converse about life, while taking their classic car deep into the woods for a very grisly night’s work. Filled with juxtaposing elements while primarily being dialogue driven, this short will take you on a spooky ride through the mundanes of life that mask a darker style of living. Cadillac Dust houses a realistic style and studio-level quality that will cater to adults and horror fans. This story will provide the viewer with anticipation, along with some gory surprises along the way. The serious and eerie tonality of this short film will instantly hook any horror and animation fan's attention.

Meet the Team:

Primarily a team of two, Cadillac Dust consists of writer/director Abigail Braman and lead fabricator David Ernst, who work for their own LLC called Ernstman Productions, located in the Poconos, PA.

David Ernst is an immensely talented fabricator, creating puppets and sets for such shows as MTV’s Celebrity Deathmatch and Nickelodeon’s Prometheus and Bob. As well as being an accomplished fabricator, David also shines in the special effects makeup department, and is also a co-creator of Prometheus and Bob. The intricacy in his work speaks for itself, showcasing amazing artistry and a defined skill set. Dave is also a husband and father of four with a strong passion for animation, horror and science fiction.

Abigail is primarily a macabre artist, working mostly in oil paintings, but is also proficient in illustration, cartooning and storyboarding. She has done freelance jobs for such companies as Warner Bros. Television and mural companies such as The Weber Group, INC., and has also worked on various film sets as a production assistant. She also writes film reviews and conducts interviews for the popular horror site, Nightmarish Conjurings. Abigail is incredibly passionate about her artwork, animation, and loves all-things writing, horror, and art history related (and animation, of course).

Cadillac Dust has also recently brought on board the amazingly talented Christy Becker of Laika Studios to create the busts and sculptures of our two main characters, and secondary victim character.

Cast of Actors:

This short contains two main characters- the First Man, and the Second Man. Each character represents something different; something seemingly normal on the outside, but very sinister on the inside. The First Man is played by the very talented Matt Mercer, who can be seen in such horror films as Beyond the Gates, Contracted, The Mind’s Eye, etc., while the Second Man is played by the equally talented Chase Williamson, who you may recognize from such movies as John Dies at the End, The Guest, Beyond the Gates, and Sequence Break. Both actors are very well known within the horror genre, and all voice over acting has already been completed at Marc Grau Studios in Los Angeles back in 2016.

What's Been Completed:

Storyboards, character design, some concept art, two full-standing character armatures, the completed shell of the Cadillac car, unmixed and unmastered voice over audio, character bust sculpts, Molds of the two main character's busts (along with the mold of the Cadillac), etc. Everything completed so far has been diagramed out through schematics, and designed from scratch and by hand.

What is Needed to Progress:

The team behind Cadillac Dust can only do so much on their own, and are now at the stage of needing the help of other professionals to get this project completed in a timely manner. Budget has been the biggest chokehold, causing delays and stops to the overall production. The goal here would be to hire a few of the wonderful and talented employees over at Laika Studios, and for the Cadillac Dust team to fly out to Portland to rent a work and filming space to further and complete this short. There are currently a few Laika employees aware of this project, and wanting to participate, but in order to get there, full funding is needed.

Crowd funding has already been pursued, raising a total amount of $6,000 (with around $2,500 remaining). Without knowing exactly which artists will charge what prices for their work, a pretty realistic budget estimate to complete a short film like this is being guessed at about $35,000. With minimal sets, characters, and through the employment of green screen and matte painted backgrounds, the team at Ernstman Productions feels strongly about being able to complete this project on a reasonable budget. The next realistic step is seeking out the involvement of executive producers who are just as passionate about stop-motion animation as they are!
